Danny Ives

Danny Ives

Danny Ives, a native of Philadelphia, has been training for 15 years in the Martial Arts. After watching a skinny Royce Gracie beat all his opponents using simple ground techniques, Danny, being a small kid, thought that this style would be perfect for him. Since then he has trained at many of top programs nationwide such as Renzo Gracie's gym in NYC, Militich's MMA in Iowa, and Brazilian Top Team in Rio de Janeiro. In 2005, Danny had a chance to come train with Master Lloyd Irvin in Maryland and has been there every since.

Over the years, Danny has won many Championships including a Gold Medal at the 2001 Pan-American Tournament (Adult Purple Belt Featherweight). He has also collected 15 titles in the North American Grappling Association, all in the Advanced and Expert skill divisions, from as light as Flyweight all the way up to Light-Heavyweight in both Gi and No-Gi. He is an undefeated Mixed Martial Arts Fighter and a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Full competition credentials here).

Danny has been an integral part of the Children's Program at Team Lloyd Irvin since 2005 and now brings his experience to Crazy 88. He is a truly gifted Kids instructor.

Jason Farrell

Jason Farrell

"Muay Thai" Jason Farrell started his Martial Arts training in the traditional styles at age 6. After trying Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Kempo, and Kendo, he started training in Muay Thai in 2006 at Team Lloyd Irvin headquarters in Camp Springs, MD. Soon after he started training, he quit his job as a manager at Honda Of Annapolis to focus 100% on his Thai Boxing.

After only seven months of training, Jason competed at the Muay Thai Nationals and has been a steady sparring partner for Mike Easton, Ron Stallings, and other professional Mixed Martial Artists on Team Lloyd Irvin. Since that time, he has returned to the ring in 2008 where he took 3rd in the Muay Thai Nationals.

In March of 2008, Jason began teaching at Ivey League MMA in Annapolis and at Crazy 88 shortly thereafter. He comes from a family of teachers and is very passionate and dedicated to helping other reach their goals, whether it be to get into better shape, or to become a world class striker.

Quote- "Of all the striking disciplines I have trained I believe that Muay Thai is by far the most effective. With proper technique you can accomplish maximum damage with minimal strength."

Michael Atkin

Mike Atkin

Michael Atkin - the heart of Crazy 88 BJJ. Old enough to be the father of most of the other instructors, Mike Atkin sets an amazing example for the rest of the school.

In his youth, Mike Atkin was a true Mixed Martial Artist, going undefeated in the Golden Gloves as an amateur and then wrestling all the way to the collegiate level. As Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Purple Belt, Mike Atkin has won almost every tournament imaginable including the International Masters & Seniors, No-Gi PanAms, and the normal PanAms. Mike continues to compete at age 54 and to train harder than most grapplers less than half his age.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has been a passion of mine ever since I watched Royce Gracie win the Ultimate Fighting Championship in middle school. I had the good fortune of attending a college that had both thriving Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo clubs. During vacations, I trained at Renzo Gracie's Manhattan Academy and represented that team competitively for 6 years. I was awarded my blue belt by Rodrigo Gracie in October of 1999 and received my purple belt from Renzo Gracie in April of 2003. In 2004, I began training with Lloyd Irvin and have seen vast improvements in my game from his systematic approach to grappling. I began teaching Jiu-Jitsu in 2000 for the Cornell University BJJ Club. During my time as President, we managed to win multiple gi and no-gi divisions at various events from the Arnold/Gracie Worlds to the NAGAs. As a team, we considered it customary to have our members win blue belt divisions as white belts. I've had the good fortune of having great coaches and teammates throughout my career and understand the importance of a supportive team. I hope to provide an academy where competitors as well as casual students can train in a professional, friendly, and ego-free environment.
