Paul Davis aka "Top Game" came up a bit short in his first gi match, losing a close match by 2 pts. He battled back to win the consolation via submission.

Mike Florey aka "Bottom Game" showed what he could do, unleashing his repertoire of closed guard attacks. Bottom Game finished everyone he faced in both divisions until the gi finals where he lost on points. This was a great competition for Bottom Game who rose to the occasion and really impressed everyone with his gameness. I also suspect that he is the first person from 88BJJ to choke his opponent completely unconscious.

Wayne Johnson came to the tournament to achieve his goal of four medals. He had to settle for three but still fought incredibly well despite numerous injuries. He had the most matches of the day with 10.

Joe Killo earned his first Advanced division medal. He had a barnburner match vs. a tough purple belt in the no-gi. Joe scored first with a beautiful ankle pick but the purple belt swept him back. As they scrambled back to the feet, Joe's opponent managed to lock on a kneebar forcing Joe to tap. In the consolation bracket, Joe got up 20+ points. Joe had his opponent in a TIGHT armbar that had the crowd grimacing but his opponent just would not tap. We later saw him in the bathroom, rehabbing his elbow but in the heat of the moment, he was impervious to pain. Congrats to Killo who fought smart to place at his first Advanced division outing.

Julius Park finished his two opponents quickly, with a cross-choke and triangle respectively, to win the Purple Belt Middleweight division (he had to bump up a weight class).

Malcolm leaves an impression in his first tournament as a blue belt. Malcolm had eight fights in three divisions and submitted all but one opponent. He brought home two Golds in the Intermediate No-Gi and the Blue Belt Open. His 2-0 loss (on a "phantom" takedown) in the Light-Heavyweight championship was avenged later that day when Malcolm defeated the same opponent in the Open finals 8-0. Not bad for a guy who was promoted a month ago.
